I started out selling this wonderful clothing at an
outdoor Farmer’s Market. The companies that I represented couldn’t believe I
was having such great sales at a Farmer’s Market!! But they make great
clothes that are soft, comfortable and stylish, so it was not surprising that they sold well.
The idea for my shop came out of a desire to find clothing for myself that was safe for me, my family and the environment.
Then I realized others might want the same
thing—and no one in Kansas City was doing this exclusively. A few people
didn’t think KC was really ready for a store like this. But I
knew if I made it easy for people to see and touch the clothing that they
would love it and be glad to make the more environmentally sound choice.
Like many people, when I decided that I was ready to try “organic” clothes, I
thought I would have to endure a lot of beige, frumpy styles and maybe
not-so-soft clothing. What I found was exactly the opposite! Most people
cannot distinguish by look alone that the clothes I sell (and wear) are
“organic” or better for the environment. However, one way the clothes are
different can’t be shown in pictures only: the clothes are sooo soft!!
Usually much softer than their “conventional” counterparts.
My switch to an “organic” environment in my own personal life, took time.
But, I believe, if we each make small changes, over time all the cleaner
choices will have a big impact on our health, the health of our children, our
planet and the wildlife too.
